Podcast dictionary: P-Z

• POD: A general term for an MP3 player. It could be an iPod, a cell phone or some other kind of MP3 playing device.
• PODCAST: The word podcast was originally constructed by the words "iPod" and "boradcast". Later, the expression POD was redefined to mean "Personal On Demand", so that podcasting came to mean "Personal On Demand CASTING" or "Personal transmitions available for download". So, a podcast is a series of related shows available on the internet, that can be played back on an MP3 player. Besides a number of episodes a podcast consists of an RSS feed, that describes the podcasts and its individual episodes. To not link the term too much to the iPod some use the term NETCAST instead of PODCAST.
• PODCASTER: A podcaster is a podcast host. It correspondons to a radio host or TVanchor.
• PODCATCHING: This expression is used by some about receiving podcasts. It corresponds to a radio listener.
• RSS FEED: An RSS feed is an important part of podcasting. RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" (or let us just say that that is the most common definition) and is used to "release" the episodes of your podcast. Det er stedet, hvor alle med en internetforbindelse skal kunne se, hvad dit podcast handler om, hvilke episoder du har udgivet, hvor MP3-filerne ligger osv. • SOFTWARE: The expression SOFTWARE is usually used as a synonym for "program" or "application", ie a system, that can be run on a computer. A sound editing program would be an example of a piece of software.
